Check out how the winner for this week learned to do the VFX of this level!
How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top-notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, Eevee or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow
So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of July 5, 2021: André Janse van Vuuren.
Title: Tortoise Thinks It’s a Dog
Final & Making-of Video:
I’m a self taught 3D artist living in Cape Town. Started with Blender in high school as a hobby and it soon spiraled into a fulltime job right after graduation at a VFX company. Now 3D is my job and still my hobby.
About "Tortoise Thinks It’s a Dog:"
My best friend used to own a pet tortoise. One day he joked and talked to the tortoise as if it where a dog. After that I was sort of curious how freaky and cute it would be if a tortoise actually did behave like a dog. And that’s how I came to this project, the goal was to see how one would react to such “Labra-Tortoise.” And the other goal was to make a convincing background, so that folks will know its a cg tortoise, but not the entire video. Over at r/blender it seemed to have bamboozled everyone. Makes me smile to this day.
