In a recent debate about Blender's usability in professional environment, it was interesting to note that many didn't question Blender's capabilities as a professional tool at all. The problem lies, some noted, in the transitional costs of training entire employees to learn a new tool. Perfectly makes sense. Will the picture change someday? Regardless of how it will turn out to be, it's definitely a blessing to have another wonderful tool available at your disposal. And this week's winner has discovered just that.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best  work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. A Vray render or any other render is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you  the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of November 25,  Markus Nowak.

Title: "Of Butterflies and Astronauts"
Genre: Concept Art
Renderer: Cycles

About Me:
My Name is Markus Nowak.  I just graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Design in Nuremberg, Germany with specialization in Illustration, Graphic Design and CGI. I've been working as a freelance Designer and one year ago I have founded my own Design-Studio called “Tatendrunk” with three of my very good friends and  fellow students.

I gained my first 3D Experiences with Autodesk Maya during my studying time but about one year ago I have stumbled upon Blender and its great and fast modeling possibilities, as well as Cycles--a great renderer that has the potentials to become a big competitor in the big field of render engines.

The thing that I love most about 3D is the freedom you have to communicate your concepts and visions. But in the end it doesn't matter what kind of tool do you use, whether its 3D or 2D. The only thing that really matters to me is, how far can I go to break through the boundaries of reality.

You can check out my Blog at: http://www.ihatedesign.de/
The main Page with more commercial works will come soon.

About "Of Butterflies and Astronauts:"
I have created this Artwork 3 or 4 Months ago as a project to learn Blender. The whole creation process took me about 3 Months. I only had the time to work in my spare time because I was in the middle of my bachelor thesis. If I had the time to just work on one project like this (and this is more than unrealistic) it would take about a week or two.

The original concept was without butterflies. Instead, there were many Light-bulbs in the background to create a surreal space illusion. But I wasn't satisfied with the bokeh effect/result and it felt too technical. It needed a bigger contrast. One of the aims for this artwork was to create an iconographic composition. To find a good, smooth and balanced rhythm between the middle part and the elements surrounding it.

I don't want to say too much about it, because its a product of inspiration and the complex process in my mind. It is an art. And every time somebody tries to explain the process behind art, it becomes banal and disrespectful for the viewers.

So, the stage is yours! Find your own Interpretation. There is no right or wrong.
