Use of 3D renders as a basis for digital paintings--as in matte paintings and concept arts--is a standard practice. How good can Blender be in this usage? Check out the work of this week's winner.
How, then, can you qualify for this award? Please remember that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. Please submit your latest work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other renderer is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

About Me:
I am a Visual Effects Supervisor at Iloura in Melbourne, Australia and have been animating since 1985. I began as a cel (2D) animator and moved to CGI in 1988. I am married with triplet sons and a Schnauzer Astro.For the past ten of years I have been writing Children’s Books and Screenplays in my spare time and like to promote open source software in my work.
About 'Oscar of the Congo':
This is concept art for a screenplay I wrote many years ago about a small dog who travels to Africa and rescues a bunch of African animals along the way. Just as some artists use photography or small tabletop models to develop their composition and form before painting starts, I like to use Blender. I do a simple build caring more about light than detail, and add the detail in in Photoshop by hand.
