What makes a good concept art for vehicles or machines? One crucial element seems to be a solid logic behind the designs. Look at the joints, for example. Do they have hinges? Can the joints allow the required movements? That's one things a VFX supervisor wouldn't miss in the works of his crews. What if one of such supervisors decides to design one himself? Take a look at the works of this week's winner.

How, then, can you qualify for this award? Please remember that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios.  If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. Please submit your latest work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other renderer is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you  the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of January 25, 2016: Glenn Melenhorst.

Artist's Comments
About Me:
My Name is Glenn Melenhorst and I am a VFX Supervisor for Iloura. (www.iloura.com.au) In my spare time, I illustrate and animate and love using Blender. I live in Melbourne Australia with my wife and triplet boys.

About "The Bunny":
I have been playing with simple designs for single person space vehicles. In addition, I have been experimenting with panel loops in ZBrush and wanted to try making a ship or two with that method. These renders are part Zbrush and part Blender model, shaded and rendered in Cycles. I find using a good IBL like the warehouse and really spending time on a good shader network adds a lot to the finished look.
The funny thing is there really aren't many texture maps, it's all shader works with the exception of a number "5" or simple GUI graphics.
