“Cosmos Laundromat”—Blender Institute’s 6th open movie, although distracted by the single “f” word incident—turned out to be a success in that it successfully showcased Blender’s latest capabilities. It also won the Jury’s Award at Animago, a worldwide renowned contest in the entire field of 3D animation, still, visual effects and visualization.
3. Technical Excellence involving Blender Recognized
Erwin Coumans, a former Blender developer received a technical achievement award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for his development of the open source Bullet Physics library. Joshua Leung (Aligorith) and Daniel Martinez Lara (Pepeland) got their paper on Blender's grease pencil accepted into SIGGRAPH Asia 2015.
2. Blender-specific Third Party Add-ons and Products
In addition to amazing third party add-ons that gives Blender unprecedented new capabilities, quality products released specifically designed for Blender are making it more attractive to 3D artists. While many of them comes with a price tag, it no doubt helps to ensure their continued maintenance and development. It’s a promising move, since the third party plug-ins and products are what have contributed to the success of existing 3D packages.

In addition to numerous feature improvements—Light Portals, Pointedness Attributes, Open Subdiv, View Port Dof & AO, etc.—stereoscopic rendering and editing got realized from Blender 2.75 on. “Getting this feature work meant to work on the viewport, UI drawing, imaging systems, movie/IO, render engines, compositor and sequence editor.”
