10. AMD Supports Blender Cycles


In addition to Nvidia’s, GPU rendering in AMD’s videocards also became possible, ever since Blender 2.75.

“Glass Half,” another open movie released by Blender Institutes, has demonstrated Blender’s latest capabilities regarding “freestyle” rendering for 2D animation projects.

4. Success of Cosmos Laundromat


“Cosmos Laundromat”—Blender Institute’s 6th open movie, although distracted by the single “f” word incident—turned out to be a success in that it successfully showcased Blender’s latest capabilities. It also won the Jury’s Award at Animago, a worldwide renowned contest in the entire field of 3D animation, still, visual effects and visualization.

3. Technical Excellence involving Blender Recognized 


Erwin Coumans, a former Blender developer received a technical achievement award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for his development of the open source Bullet Physics library. Joshua Leung (Aligorith) and Daniel Martinez Lara (Pepeland) got their paper on Blender's grease pencil accepted into SIGGRAPH Asia 2015.

1. Blender Gets Armed with
Native Stereoscopic Rendering Capabilities


In addition to numerous feature improvements—Light Portals, Pointedness Attributes, Open Subdiv, View Port Dof & AO, etc.—stereoscopic rendering and editing got realized from Blender 2.75 on. “Getting this feature work meant to work on the viewport, UI drawing, imaging systems, movie/IO, render engines, compositor and sequence editor.”
