Definitely, Blender is an excellent modeling tool, even if Blender Internal or Cycles is not your favorite renderer, as the winner for this week discovered.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best  work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of July 20, 2015: Alessandro Cordeiro.

Title: Chilean Pools

Artist's Comment
About Me:
My name is Alessandro Cordeiro, a 45-years-old artist from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Although I've been working as a professional in computer graphics industry since 1996, I just came to be interested in the 3D field since the year 2000 onward, starting my journey with 3ds Max 3.0. I am self-taught and I've been working since then as a 3D generalist, working mainly in the architectural pre-viz segment.
I was able to develop expertise in several areas related to 3D such as: modeling, animation , rendering and etc. having worked on some projects giving art direction .
I always liked Blender but only had the courage to experiment it when Blender made the move to the new interface. Previously the interface always scared me. :)

About "Chilean Pools:"
When I decided to start this project , I wanted some challenges instead of doing the basics. I searched on for several references to architectural projects until I found a fantastic place in the Atacama Desert in Chile: Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa.
I had no doubt it had to be this one.

For modeling itself. I’ve made wide use of the Sculpt tool Dynotopo option to create wear and imperfections in order to give more realism. I modeled some plants such as cortaderia speciosa--beautiful and very present in the region. And I used free tree models from the catalog of Labwerk and Itrees from Icube collection--excellent quality models, I might add. The texturing work was done with simple unwrapping. All the maps are of CGtextures.com, except for the plants. I’ve tried various render engines including Cycles, but only Corona gave me what I wanted--desired result.
