Fan arts rarely make it to be a candidate of the Render of the Week Award. But the quality of other renders featured in the demoreel that included the work above as well as the work itself was "good enough" to make it to the rank. It's also interesting to read who the artist is, and how long it took for him to learn Blender.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best  work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the second-time winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of December 7, 2015: Neil Taylor.

Title: "R2D2"

Artist's Comment
About Me:
My name is Neil Taylor (aka Natman) and I live in the UK. I have been using Blender in my spare time for around 4 years, my aim is usually to achieve a photo-realistic render and most of my work ends up as an animation. I like to try and get a cinematic feel in my animations and would like to one day make a short film, however, I have come to realize that this is a huge undertaking, especially working in my spare time only!

About "R2D2:"
I originally made the R2 model for fun and some modelling practice over a couple of weeks. Once complete I decided to try and emulate the feel of a shot from Star Wars and so built a quick model of the set using screen grabs as reference. Lighting is just a simple row of emitting planes but seems to give an accurate representation of the original lighting on set.
