It's significant that several Blender-made shorts have made its way to the "SIGGRAPH 2013: Computer Animation Festival Preview Trailer." Evidently, Blender now seems to be an inevitable part of the international CG industry. While it's not very common now to see seasoned studio(s) using Blender, it would be a mistake to conclude that Blender is being dismissed by serious professionals. In fact, transition takes time, especially when the artists involved should reach a level where he/she feels comfortable and more efficient with a new tool. Evidently this week's winner is one of such artists.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best  work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. A Vray render or any other render is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you  the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of August 5, Jakub Vondra.

Title: "Princess"

Artist's Comment
About Me:
I'm Jakub Vondra, a 22-year-old artist from Czech Republic. After art-focused high school, I started working in the CG industry, as environment modeler and lighting artist. Have been doing that 3 years now,  working in Maya mainly. Being a new fan of opensource, I've been making a slow transition to Blender in my personal works.

About "Princess:"
I created the character for a short animation. Because of limited time available, I managed only to create this static image.  I hope I will find time to finish the original idea. Scene was modeled in Maya and Sculptris, textured mainly using blender procedural textures and Krita, rendered in Blender Cycles.
