The arrival of Cycles render engine has given Blender an unprecedented abilities in creating amazing art. Check out the work of this week's winner and see how Cycles & Blender can turn a few textures into a Sci-Fi marvel.
How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.
So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of June 6, 2016: George Kim.

About Me:
My name is George Kim (Kim, Dong Hoon)--a 3D generalist in living in Goyang, Kyunggido, South Korea. I've been exploring and using Blender ever since it had no ray-tracing abilities.
Among many works I do, I've been focusing my 3D related endeavor in creating a Sci-fi 3D animation series called "CEREBRUM." (https://www.youtube.com/user/CEREBRUMtheScifi3D) The first ultra-short episode has already been completed and I've been focusing my endeavor on creating a squeal.
Oh, I'm a native South Korean, by the way. Born in South Korea back in October 1970, but being exposed to a local community of English-speaking friends ever since I was young, some people might consider me as bilingual. But among most native South Koreans who don't speak English, I pretend to be "normal."
About "United Earth Mothership:"
This is an entry created for CGSociety’s 15th year Anniversary Challenge called "Thrust--a concept spaceship design competition." Since I had some experience creating Sci-Fi machines and aircraft for "CEREBRUM," I decided to jump in during a holiday weekend. I meant to create a base mesh and paint over it with Photoshop. But I started testing my Cycles shaders that I made for "CEREBRUM" on the new mesh and started tweaking them and ended up finishing the whole scene within a day or two. The Cycle shaders are designed to give an illusion of sophisticated look on a relatively simple mesh. The flying fighters are actually instances of two simple objects created as props for the scene. They use the same Sci-Fi shader with the Mothership.
