Among some of the notable Blender tutorials released lask week was the one by Greg Zaal from Blendernerd.com on Subsurface Scattering in Cycles. Greg's method is adding an additional model--with regular defuse material--that would represent bones and body tissues inside the organic model and using a simple node setup for skin. As the illustration above shows, the result seems quite impressive--something that was unattainable through Blender Internal.
