Artist's Comment
About Me:
My name is Juan José Torres and I'm a self taught 3D generalist living in Madrid, Spain, with more than three years of experience in Blender and Cycles. Although I strive to have a functional knowledge of most areas involved in 3D creation, my principal areas of expertise are modeling, shading, lighting and compositing. As a result of the emphasis on these specific areas, my current skill set is particularly suited for product visualization, among other things.

About "Pile of MSX Memories:"
The team behind Retromaniac Magazine was very specific about what they needed for this particular image. They sent me a page layout with a silhouette marking the specific space where I had to fit a pile made out of MSX tapes and cartridges. The final delivered image would consist only of the pile of games and its shadow on a transparent background. Laying out the scene in such a specific way posed some challenges, but in the end rigid body simulation and a mountain shaped barrier were the solution.
Another important aspect of this render was the the complex shader setup I had to create to assign random labels to each game cartridge. This was essential for the scene to work, as only four different objects were actually modeled for this render, the majority of elements in the scene consisting of instances of two of those objects. Objects sharing the same geometry data can be easily identified in the wireframe render, since they also share the same color.
