What is it that makes certain renders stand out from others? Many of our previous winners of the Render of the Week Award have a strong traditional-art background. Due to their knowledge and training of faking real world and lighting with brush and paint, they are exceptionally good at "faking" natural lighting and textures with Blender Internal as well. Even with physically-based render engines like Cycles, such knowledge and understanding inevitably affect the final result. The winner for this week also has such a background and ability.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please remember that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. So please submit your top notch work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. A Vray render or any other render is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of July 9, 2012: Julian Fischer.

About Me:
My Name is Julian Fischer, I am a freelance designer, illustrator and animator. I live in Pretoria, South Africa. I have a fine art background and have always appreciated classic sci-fi and fantasy art. I started using Blender at the beginning of 2011 and then professionally in 2012. I have a degree in information design and enjoy creative pursuits in my free time.

About "Come Hell or High Water:"
This piece was produced for a Blenderguru competition. It did not win but was a pleasure to produce. I have recently re-rendered and re-composited the image to achieve a better result. Produced with Blender and rendered with Blender internal with post production in Photoshop.
