10. BLENDER.ORG UNDER DDOS ATTACK FOR 2 DAYS


Less than 1 month after the start of 2020 from January 30tt through 31st, A DDOS attack has paralyze the official website of Blender Foundation which provides the free downloads of latest and previous Blender builds.
Who’s involved or why it happened has not been confirmed but apparently it did little to stop the ever-growing popularity, if not it rather has provided an extra reason for more public attention.

8. COVID-19 HITS BLENDER CONFERENCE 2020

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 Blender Conference 2020 got held as an online event. But it held one the most impressive line-up of industry veterans sharing their story of how they are using Blender and gives insight into high profile projects using Blender.
It also gives insight into what terrifying experience Ton Roosendale the president of Blender Institute had been going through.

5. SUCCESS OF BLENDER-SPECIFIC ONLINE MARKET

Blender is turning out to be a successful market for talented artists and addon-creators. During the year 2020 along, a single Blender specific-addon called “Botaniq” has sold over 4,200 copies, raking in up to $457,000 (US)! Although the actual revenue for the creator could be far less than half the figure, it still is a lot of money. And this is not a single incident, but a growing trend—with ever growing quality of Blender-specific add-ons developed, leading to ever-growing sale and profits.

2. BLENDER RELEASES


2020 has been most prolific year for Blender development with Blender versons released from 2.82 to 2.91.
One of the notable developments of event is the release of Blender 2.83 LTS (Long Term Support) edition, which is vital for long-term projects using Blender.

1. NEW & EVER-EVOLVING FEATURES OF BLENDER

Nothing can be more exiting than the news regarding new or improved features of Blender in 2020, which included:
Cloth Brush, object-type volume, OpenVDB support, OptiX view port denoising, VR support  to name a few. Pre-existing features have been in improved Grease Pencil, simulation, sculpting, Boolean and etc, eliminating previous need for many 3rd party software.
