Shading & lighting is such a crucial art that there are dedicated artists just for this task. Check out what the winner for this week has created to make the most realistic CG human skin possible.

How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best  work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of September 21, 2015: Ismael Fuentes.

Title: "Skin in Cycles. Emily 2.1"

Artist's Comment
About Me:
My name is Ismael Fuentes (ismaelfuentes). I have a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Valencia, Spain) with a specialization in painting. People know my paintings but they don't know that computer graphics (CG) was my frustrated profession until now.
Blender 2.49 was the first version I used, I learned a lot about 3D basic concepts. Time has drifted by and I'm now prepared for sharing my work. I'm very perfectionist, so finishing my works is always a hard job for me. I hope I'll show new projects (more artistic) in the near future.
You can see my work in: http://www.ismaelfuentes.com/

About "Skin in Cycles. Emily 2.1:"
It's important to me to clarify that I find this job more technical than artistic. It's a study in which I can apply all I have learned. The aim of this project was to do everything possible for creating the most realistic skin.

Model and texturing aren't mine, you can download Emily 2.1 at the Wikihuman Project website:

"Skin in Cycles. Emily 2.1" is a study of human skin that I did in four days with Blender 2.75a I wanted to go in depth about texturing and shading in cycles. Some things can be improved but it's only a study...
The only artistic details I added are the haircut and the eyebrow piercing (Suzanne monkey  ) The aim of this project was to improve a personal project entirely created by me  a few years ago, but I still not satisfied with the result.
