Apparently, a lot of talented Blender artists have started out as a hobbyist, due to the availability of Blender. It's interesting to note how far they have come from being a 3D newbie.
How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.
So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of August 17, 2015: Dominik Schatz.

About Me:
I am 24 years old and live in Austria. I am one of the three CEOs of the company ZEUS Medien (www.zeusmedien.com), which provides services centered around creating 2D/3D animations, webdesign and web development.
3D is mainly a hobby of mine, though. I am into 3D for about 3 and a half years now and it became a big part of my way to express my creativity. I started out as a student, so there was no money to buy one of the expensive 3D softwares. After some research on the internet I found Blender and it took a lot of time to understand the program. But I learned more and more about the 3D world, and every project brings me further. That’s a big reason that keeps me going.
About "Bees:"
The goal of this render was to create a believable close up scenes of the nature. And I think that bees are really important to our environment and I like them. I am not that great in sculpting, but I had a great time modeling the bees and I learned a lot with this project.
I didn’t use image textures at all except for some displacements. Other then that I used procedural textures and vertex-painting. Texture-painting was only used to create masks for the models.
