One of the most impressive feature of Blender seems to be the quality of the built-in render engine--namely, Cycles--which seems to be ahead of any other built-in render engines of  other 3D modelling package, as the work of this week's winner demonstrates.

How, then, can you qualify for this award? Please remember that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios.  If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. Please submit your latest work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other renderer is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.

So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you  the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of March 2, 2015Guilherme Henrique

Title:  "Opening the Dark Portal"

Artist's Comments
About Me:
My name is Guilherme Henrique, I work as a 3D Artist in Brazil, doing mainly works for other countries as a freelance. I've been using Blender for almost 6 years, coming from 3D Max.

About "Opening the Dark Portal:"
I made that image for a CGSociety contest (Hardcore Modeling). I always loved doing environments, and these epic moods are what most inspire me when doing a work, so I have a natural tendency to follow that art style. World of Warcraft is one of my favorite games so far, and an obvious choice when I took that challenge.
Almost 8 million polygons in viewport, but with a memory usage under 1GB due to heavy instancing. Post production is the thing I value most when I'm doing work, so Photoshop was heavily used for the final look.
