Blender seems to be gaining growing reputation as a competent tool for creating award-winning entries for 3D competitions both prestigious and emerging, as more and more trained artists become comfortable with it. So is the winner of the Render of the Week Award for this week. Coming from a background as a traditional artist, he has created a stunning art with Blender and won the first prize at a competition organized by "3D Saloon" a French 3D website.
How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please remember that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. So please submit your top notch work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. A Vray render or any other render is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.
So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of July 2, 2012: Eric Basiletti.

About Me:
My name is Eric Basiletti, i'm a painter/illustrator, both traditionnal and digital. Coming from a background as a traditional painter, I used to use 3D images solely as sketches. Selling digital works is rather new for me, but now I sell so many digital arts than traditional. Like a lot of people, I enjoy Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but my preference goes to all that are dark . I like to show the beauty in dark things. My favorite artist is Beksinski.
About "The Doppelganger:"
Evoking the Germanic myth of evil twin, The Doppelganger is an Image realized for the first competition of the French site-3D Saloon. Base modeling was done in Sketchup and then quickly placed and refined in blender. I have used mostly procedural textures in this picture, and I win a lot of time in my work and rendering. The rendering is done with the Blender Internal. Cycle does not suit me. I used three area lights, one above and two front, I also used two point light for the background. The Rendering lasted 20 minutes. Post production in Photoshop.
