There are many awards among CGI Communities. As one said, they are "dime a dozen" nowadays. Moreover, most of them are hardly the ones what a "naive" candidate would dream about: somethings that would be awarded only to the "best artists." Awards are usually sponsored and inevitably influenced by those who would rather have their merchandise advertised rather than "advertise" the excelling talents of certain artists. Voting system also affects the result. Open popularity votes are bound to be affected by (1) how many "connections" an artist has rather than how talented he or she is and (2) who the majority of the voters are: whether they are "hobbyists" or experienced artists with trained eyes.

What, however, is the purpose of the awards to be? Some say It is to complement those who deserve, those who have pushed the limits and demonstrated what you also can do what others previously had not done before; or simply to point other those who have done the best job. If that's what you define an award to be, please note the Render of the Year Award organized by www.BlenderNews.org this year onward. This award will also help viewers to identified who or what studios have the cutting-edge skills in regard to Blender for a specified year.

The candidates of the award are the winners of the Render of the Week Award who have been selected during that year. Among them top 5 winners will be selected and announced. The winners will be chosen by two stages: (1) Stage One: Regular Members of www.BlenderNews.org will cast their vote for respective renders posted at CHOICE GALLERY-VOTING PAGES FOR 'RENDER OF THE YEAR 2013. Their vote will decide 10 nominees; (2) Stage Two: the winners of the Render of the Week Award will be privileged to cast their vote for the top 5 winners.

During the Stage One, viewing privilege of the each posts at CHOICE GALLERY-VOTING PAGES FOR 'RENDER OF THE YEAR 2013 will be restricted to Regular Members only. Who are the Regular Members? If you log in with your ID and if you can view the pages you are one of them, that is, those who have signed up with convincing information about their "homepage" which would lead to a website or personal blog or etc. that serves as their portfolio, showing their competence as CGI artists. Typing in "www.google.com," "www.blender.org," or even "www.blendernews.org" at the "Homepage" field would very likely result in rejection as a Regular Member.

If you are one of our Regular Members, please be sure to visit the CHOICE GALLERY-VOTING PAGES FOR 'RENDER OF THE YEAR 2013 and cast your vote. And please remember the purpose of the award. Please vote based on the skills of each artists not your rapport with the artists. Moreover, you can add your comment below each renders about why you think the render deserves to be chosen among others. Best comments will be featured at the announcement of the Render of the Year Award.
