Some of the most astonishing tutorials, however, have come from a few independent Individual artists.

6. Blender Noted As an Arch Viz Tool

Increasing number of Arch Viz artists have embraced Blender as their Arch viz tool. "BI vs. Cycles vs. Yafaray - an Artist's Observation", a report by Olivier Boscournu has demonstrated Blender's potentials as an arch viz tool. Enrico Cerica's work with Blender was also noted among Arch Viz professionals.

5. Potent Mix: Cycles & Particle System 

Some stunning renders and animation have made news in 2012 exploring the use of Blender's Cycles Render engine & its particle system. When the render "Green Woods" was first released online. The quality was so amazing that even some of the advanced Blender artists ended up challenging its genuineness. Agustin Benavidez's render "Island" was released as an animated version entitled "Cycle Island Revisited" and enjoyed more than 10,000 views within a few weeks, demonstrating Blender's potentials as an environment creation tool.

This year's Suzanne Animation Festival successfully showcased Blender's ability as an animation tool. One such example is "Park" - a proud example of what Blender can produced in a trained hand.

2. "Tears of Steel" 

After 7 months of work in Amsterdam by a dozen of open source visual effect specialists, the Blender Foundation has released director Ian Hubert's new short film, demonstrating Blender's capabilities as an all-around VFX tool.

1. BMesh 

Disputably, the most significant change ever happened to Blender in 2012 is the introduction of BMesh - Blender's N-gons. As a result, Blender has attracted a new array of talented professionals coming from other 3D software packages. One of such artists--"Tommy Wong"--have even became the winner of a game character creation contest organized by Mixamo.com by using Blender as a test tool.

Among other or new features that have been added to Blender in 2012 are: Fire simulation, Improved Bevel Tool, Mask Editor, 3D Motion Tracker, Improved Compositor, Skin Modifier, Remesh Modifier, and etc.
