Apparently, a rich pool of talented Blender artists are coming from former professional 2D illustrators.
How, then, can you too qualify for this award? Please have in mind that this award is reserved for those that are on par with or that excel top notch works published by artists and studios. If such work does not appear during a given week, this award is not being given to anyone. So please submit your best work to www.blenderartist.org or to the Member's Gallery of this site, or Contact Us to show where your work is available on the internet. It doesn't have to be a Blender render, internal or Cycles. Any other render engine is fine as long as Blender was used as a part of your workflow.
So, it is with great pleasure that www.BlenderNews.org introduces to you the winner of the Render of the Week Award for the week of August 3, 2015: Pascal Deraed.
Title: Gun of the Kings

Artist's Comment
About Me:
I am a French guy, living in Sweden and spend most of my time working as a educator teaching everything related to 3D and 2D/3D Animation at a Cutting Edge educational Progam. Blender Cycles is by all means the 3D tool we have chosen to use. Not just because it is awesome, but also because I happen to belong to a group of educators that spend lots of time promoting the use of Open Source in the Learning situation.
About "Gun of the Kings:"
The goal with this project is very much to push Blender as far as I can and see what can be done! I have used in other projects both Substance Painter and Quixel and I am with this project trying to find out if similar resuls could be achieved using Blender. I sort of feel I have made my point with this "Plasma Weapon" scene!
I've been a Blender user since 10 years ago!! 3D has been a passion of mine as long as I can remember even though I started many years ago as a illustrator for a small Swedish game studio. As time went on, 3D became more and more, leading eventually to a full-time occupation. I am also a true fan of Sci-Fi which has without any doudt influenced my choice of Art.
More than that, I really enjoy implementing texturing and compositing and sort of come up with different ways to achieve the best results.
Rendered in Cycles (Path tracing)
Original render Size: 3700 x 3500
Samples: 10000
Render time: ~ 3 hours
I used two cards (GTX TitanZ + GTX Titan)
